About Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners

The Tinkers Creek Watershed Partners (TCWP) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) watershed organization officially established in 2006. Our mission is to address water quality/quantity issues within the Tinkers Creek Watershed. However, this only begins to describe the broad spectrum of issues the group engages in. Because environmental matters know no boundaries, the TCWP utilizes the expertise within the group to assist others in dealing with current and future problems impacting the earth and our population.

The group assists communities with NPDES compliance, storm water problems, flooding concerns, education of elected officials, climate change impacts, smart growth initiatives, school environmental program development, on-the-ground projects funded through grants, and messaging to the public through press releases and opinion pieces.

As our population continues to grow, the natural resources we depend upon for daily living are becoming scarce. The cumulative effects of our daily routines are negatively impacting the environment. There is a need for an ideological shift in the way we view our natural world and how we interact with it.

Accepted engineering/development practices put man vs. nature, rather than creating an appreciative balance between the two. Rain water is treated as a waste product rather than a resource. Garbage is picked up and buried in the earth rather than recycled. Walking or biking rather than driving is not even an option. Habitat destruction is just part of the "Manifest Destiny" approach to decision making and human progression.

The TCWP recognizes the importance of educating communities about sustainability and low-impact development practices. Our mission to provide professional services to watershed communities continues to evolve as science demonstrates the need for environmental stewardship to be part of decision-making at all levels - local, national, and global.

This organization will build lasting relationships with all watershed communities, create educational opportunities for residents, children, and elected officials, build model resource management examples through grant writing and community collaboration, provide consistent messaging regarding environmental appreciation, and foster new opportunities for the sustainability of the TCWP and the earth that we depend upon.
